On the surface not much happens: they meet each other, challenge and play with each other, and then the girl simply walks away down the railroad track – much as she began the story. Read more

I have been working to combine both self-awareness in life with the physical self awareness that is the cornerstone of the work we are doing on Viewpoints. After a full class of playing with Tempo, Duration, Repetition, and Kinestetic Response, we sat on the floor in a breathless circle to disect the exercise and see what new awarenesses came to the surface. Toyland

unknownI have a new test for actors – – perhaps it could even be used as some kind of an audition. My thought is to have all of the actors in question bring in a collection of toys that they currently have stocked on their bedroom shelves. They would be forbidden from bringing anything that requires electricity. Read more

Love, Hate and a Light Bulb

unknownWhile reading one of the one acts from 27 Wagons Full of Cotton there is a character who willingly lets herself be hurt and abused – – and even goes so far as to welcoming the abuse. The students are mystified. They, of course, want to immediately go to a sadomasochistic explanation – likely due to the popularity of the Shades of Gray movie and book. Although this could be part of the answer – it really does reach beyond this. Read more
