Every retirement book that I have read tells you that the primary occupation of the retired is their health. Health is my new job. Health is what I do. Health doesn’t pay well – in fact you have to pay FOR it. I used to make fun of “old people” for their non-stop chatter about their aches and pains; the newest procedure; their pending doctor visits; and every pill, potion, or elixir that is out there. I mean – – didn’t they have anything better to talk about?
But now I get it. As you see your health stumble through your birthdays it is both fascinating and disturbing how much the topic fills your mind. I have joined a gym (and actually go 6 days a week); started vitamins; see some kind of doctor almost every two weeks; and watch every medication commercial on TV with renewed interest. I could talk to you about politics, but I would much rather talk about the differences between Abilify and Wellbutrin. Want to go out to lunch?
