One magical thing about the holidays is the return of the recently graduated class. They have been away from these halls for less then seven months and they have changed! Obviously, at this age, their bodies have gone through a lot of change. All of those childlike bodies have now matured into adults. They fill their clothes much more authoritatively. They command more attention. They come back and visit and all of the current students fawn over them. “They made it. They escaped high school. They found the promised land of college. How did they do it?”
And these college freshman love to fill us in on every moment of their college training. They are now at the age that they know everything and their enthusiasm pours over. After one such sharing with one of my classes, a former student of mine turned to me to thank me for the opportunity to talk to the class. I told them how I was so grateful for their sharing. On a sidebar I mentioned that I am sure that you never really knew how much you learned until you had to put it into words and share a bit with others. They agreed. The best way to know something – to own something – is to try to teach it to others. You bet! I am learning every day!
