Today a terrific young man asked me to look at his monologues that he was organizing to become his college audition package. I was thrilled to be asked. The real challenge of the meeting was where to go. After giving up those sacred school keys I was stumped, but, as always, I adapted and we turned a parking lot into a makeshift rehearsal studio.
We had to stand many feet apart – – damn this COVID thing, but my older eyes and ears could still take hold. I was amazed how good not only he was but how good I was. The words just came back floating to me. But now the words were more collected and more deliberate. I was right back on the bicycle. BUT my peddling was even better! I know my shit. I felt great. I need to be doing this more often – – I just need to find a better place than a parking lot.
