There is only one word that can bring an entire room of creativity down to its knees. Everyone can be dressing out and setting up and cleaning and organizing and stacking charis to the side. We can be talking about college and fear of college and potential life without college. We can worry and fret and put our book bags to the side of the room. We can command our space and prepare to vocalize and energize – – but if this word is but spoken it all comes crashing down. That word is “tired.” The mere typing of it drains my energy to get to the end of this sentence – much less to the end of the blog. You can just see this word “t****” spread just like a cancer through the group. NOW his head hurts, and she has a headache, and he feels dizzy, and she needs to eat more, and he didn’t get enough sleep and now three more need to go to the bathroom – – and then we’re all done!
I am pretty okay with you saying ANY word in my class but this one word, I am tempted to write you a referral to the dean’s office for just thinking it. Doubt me? Try me!
